How to read these numbers
- Headline vs entry. The headline is the provider's best advertised tier; the entry tier is the lowest one they publish.
- Different yield measures. Money market funds usually quote a 7-day SEC yield; T-Bills a yield to maturity; bank accounts an APY. They're close but not identical. See methodology.
- Net of fees? Mercury, Rho and Ramp quote net of advisory fees; check each provider's fee row.
- Protection differs. Securities: SIPC, not FDIC, and can lose value. Deposits: FDIC up to $250K per bank, more through sweep networks.
FAQ
What is the current startup treasury rate?
As of 2026-10-16, the highest advertised headline yield in our data is 4.63% (Ramp, Ramp Investment Account). The median headline yield across 6 securities-based treasury products is 4.00%; across 7 bank deposit accounts it is 3.00%.
Why is the headline rate higher than what I'd get?
Headline 'up to' rates usually need a large balance or a paid plan. The entry-tier column shows the lowest published tier.
Are treasury accounts FDIC insured?
Usually not. Money market funds, T-Bills and bond funds are securities held at a broker; SIPC protects up to $500,000 (including $250,000 cash) if the broker fails, but not against a fall in value. Bank deposits are FDIC insured up to $250,000 per depositor, per bank, per ownership category.
How often do these rates change?
Money market and T-Bill yields move daily with short-term interest rates. We re-check every source weekly and date every figure.
